A hygroscopically-driven transient actuator that uses ambient humidity changes to power the deployment of environmental sensors. The actuator operates without electronic components and biodegrades in the environment after its useful lifetime, contributing to a minimal-footprint sensing infrastructure.
This project complements the transient gliders programme by providing a low-energy actuation primitive for distributed environmental sensing.
